Iligan Election Results Finalize

Iligan City-May 14/13- After hours of waiting for the totals from the new electronic voting machines to be tallied, the final election results were released.
Atty. Aleli  Dayo Ramirez,  Acting Election officer in Iligan City  announced the results at 1:10 Tuesday afternoon May 14 ,2013.
Re-elect Congressman Vicente "Varf" Belmonte Jr. garnered a total of 73,423 votes while his political opponent Jojo Borja of the Partido Lakas ng Masa obtained 9, 375 votes. Belmonte will be serving his last term this 2013- 2016.
The race for Mayor in Iligan City was won by Retired Senior Superindent Police Celso G. Regencia a former Chief of Police of Iligan City police office from the National Unity Party who accumulated 43,856 votes. Regencia defeated the current Vice Mayor Henry C. Dy who received 40, 221 votes, while Ruderic Marzo from the Liberal Party will be Iligan City new Vice Mayor who acquired 35,580 votes defeating Bernard Pacana with 20, 802 votes.
The following are the next set of City Councilors of the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) of Iligan City.
1. Providencio Abragan, Jr. (Liberal Party) - 56,878 votes
2. Marlene L. Young (liberal Party) - 53,492 votes
3. Simplicio N. Larazabal III (Independent Party) - 50,831 votes
4. Frederick N. Siao (Liberal Party) - 49,969 votes
5. Michelle E. Sweet (Liberal Party) -45,489 votes
6. Manny Salibay (Centrist Democratic Party) - 38,391 votes
7. Ariel P. Anghay (Liberal Party) - 38,238 votes
8. Roy L. Openiano (Liberal Party) - 37,160 votes
9. Samuel Huertas (Independent Party) - 34,234 votes
10. Bayani Areola (Liberal Party) - 33,576 votes
11.  Usafeno F. Obial (liberal Party) – 32,758 votes
12. Alfredo R. Busico (Liberal Party) – 32,324 votes
Vice Mayor Henry Dy conceded the Mayoral race in the early morning hours of Tuesday May 14/13.  At that time he was behind by 3196 votes. He visited Regencia, the winner, and congratulated him on his victory. Regencia warmly received Dy and thank him.
Dy  also asked the Mayor-Elect to aggressively work to unify supporters of both candidates,  for the sake of unity and harmony in the city.   He said " let us forget whatever has happened during the election and let us move on:"
Whereas in the late afternoon of May 14/ 2013 a few minutes before the proclamation mayor elect Celso Regencia attested that people in Iligan can hope for unity among the officials, even if he and others belong to different parties.
Proclamation of the winning candidates was then followed at around past 7pm May 14/13 at the Sangguniang Panglunsod Office Iligan City by Atty. Aleli Dayo Ramirez along with the board of canvassers.
The oath taking follows on June 30, 2013 for the winning candidates and will officially take their seats the following day July 1, 2013 as amended by law. (-30-)
