DENR-IX attains 100% accomplishment for NGP

RIC CLET         The National Greening Program (NGP) on its first year of implementation in Region IX by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has gained a solid ground with all field offices reporting 100% accomplishments for CY 2011.       This was revealed by Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable   during the Regional Executive Conference conducted last January 4, 2012 at the Office of the Regional Executive Director Conference Room in Pagadian City.       RED Adorable bared that as of the end of December, 2011 all ten (10) Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) and four (4) Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) throughout the Region has attained their targets and goals for NGP for Calendar Year 2011 translating into a total of 2,402,000 seedlings planted in 4,804 hectares of forest lands and urban areas region wide. These planted seedlings consisting of forest and rubber species are now under the maintenance and protection of the different people's organizations.       The accomplishment was realized through the utmost dedication and hard work of DENR-IX personnel in coordination and active involvement of the different stakeholders and partners particularly the local government units, other government agencies, academe, people's organizations, business and industrial groups, civic and military groups who heeded the call of the Department to help in the implementation of NGP, Director Adorable added.       RED Adorable announced that he has created a team coming from the regional and provincial offices to assess and validate the reported accomplishments in preparation for the coming of the Validation Team chosen by DENR Central Office.       RED Adorable commended all DENR-IX personnel particularly the Forest Management Services headed by Regional Technical Director Ali M. Bari, PENROs and CENROs for a job well done as he pose a new challenge for CY 2012 to expect additional targets set for NGP.       NGP is a government priority embodied under Executive Order No. 26 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III which aims to plant 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares of forestlands, mangrove and protected areas, ancestral domains, civil and military reservations, urban areas, inactive and abandoned mine sites, riverbanks and other suitable public lands nationwide for a period of six (6) years from 2011-2016 with the objectives of providing food security, poverty alleviation, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
