Talayan former mayor focuses on agriculture, livelihood for constituents
Talayan, Maguindanao- This agricultural town will soon be known as the cassava producing municipality in the province of Maguindanao to boost the living condition of his constiteunts.
Ali Midtimbang, father of concurrent municipal mayor Tungkang "Toh' Midtimbang and Nathaniel Midtimbnag of Datu Anggal town stressed that he will venture on cassava plantation to provide livelihood to its residents.
In 1980's, Talayan was known as the leading supplier of the Philippine Trade, the plant that produce various products from cassava. " I found it out that cassava is less expensive in terms of operational and labor, Midtimbang said.
The ex-mayor, since his retirement, focused on agricultural farming. He started from sugar which he said it was a failure due to high cost of labor and operation. He added that one of the problem is the distance from its plant which was located in North Cotabato.
Talayan also produced rice which he said, it has a total of more than 1000 irrigated rice farm in low land area, coconut, corn, mangoes which has more than 300 hectares planted with variety of mangoes.
Midtimbang stressed that peace and order is very normal and manageable, when asked about peace and order in this municipality. " in fact, we have a very peaceful election here, he said.
He claimed that there are isolated cases once in awhile but it can be resolved in the municipal level. He said that the town officials including himself is settling "rido" or family feuds which is normal in this part of the country.
Midtimbang disclosed that with the plan and programs in mind will surely put Talayan into the economic map of the province of Maguindanao.
